Daniela Bisenius, violin & Oltea Gurgui, piano

The Second Saturday Coffeehouse welcomes back the always exciting Romanian born violinist, Daniela Bisenius. Last year she performed classical, jazz, and fiery gypsy music for us, first accompanied by Bobby Schiff and later in the year by Don Stille. This April she will be accompanied by pianist, Oltea Gurgui. Their concert will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Bartok (Romanian Dances)
Brahms - Sonata for Violin and Piano number 2
Khatchatourian - Adagio from the ballet Spartacus
Puccini - selections from his operas
Albinioni - Adagio
and much more.....

Daniela Bisenius:  All About Jazz wrote, "The duet with Daniela Bisenius leads to spotlighting the violinist's agile fluidity that is part Paganini-inspired virtuosity and part Tsigan-esque pyrotechnics."  At 19 she became the youngest person ever to win a position with the Staatsphilharmonie Ludwigshafen, Germany. She also attended Violin Master Classes in Nice, France with Henrick Szering and Gerarld Poulet. In 1988 she came to the US, where she was awarded full scholarship to University of Iowa and studied with Prof. Leopold La Fosse. Here she appeared in a televised Master Class with Issac Stern. She then performed as an orchestra member with many professional orchestras including the Naples Philharmonic, the Phoenix Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, etc.

Daniela is a very versatile musician who has shared the stage with such stars as Natalie Cole, Luther Vandross, Smokie Robinson, Kurt Elling, among, many, many others. In 2010 Daniela played fiddle in the sold out musical Always Patsy Cline.

Oltea Gurgui is the recipient of various honors including prizes for Piano Competitions, Fellowships for Graduate Studies as well as Master Classes. She had appearances on Television as well as recordings for radio. She studied with some of the best teachers in the world, and represented her country at the Tchaikovsky Competition.
